Give Back Adventures was created for the purpose of combining challenging wilderness expeditions with raising funds and awareness for community based, non-profit charitable organizations
John Silva, a retired Sergeant from the Amador County Sheriff’s Office in California, formed Give Back Adventures in 2020 as a way to give back to the community he served throughout his law enforcement career. Operating under the umbrella of Amador Community Foundation, Tax ID#68-0447992, all donations to Give Back Adventures designated charities are tax deductible. Most importantly, 100% of the donations go directly to the charity following the completion of the expedition and fundraising time period.
Give Back Adventures‘ first expedition was a solo & self-supported 3,000 mile mountain bike ride on the Great Divide Mountain Bike Route from Canada to Mexico in 2021. The successful expedition increased domestic violence awareness and raised nearly $13,000 for Operation Care who provides vital services to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault.
Newest adventure, March 2023: John Silva of Give Back Adventures will be attempting a solo thru-hike of the 2,650 mile Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) from Mexico to Canada. The journey will benefit Amador Trail Stewardship, a community-based non-profit organization that strives to develop, provide access to and maintain multi-use trail systems that enhance the community.

Thru Hike
Mexico to Canada, 2023
John Silva of Give Back Adventures will be attempting a solo thru hike of the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) from Canada to Mexico starting in March 2023. This solo hike will start at the Mexico border near Campo, California and will take approximately five months following the PCT through the Sierra Nevada mountains of California and the Cascade mountain range in Oregon and Washington to the Canada border.
This adventure will increase awareness and raise funds for Amador Trail Stewardship, based in Amador County, CA. Amador Trail Stewardship is a community based & non-profit organization who works with local, state and federal agencies, as well as non-government organizations (NGO’s) and private landowners to develop, build, maintain and improve trails for runners, hikers, bikers and equestrians.

Expedition length adventures are mentally, physically and emotionally demanding; if they weren’t it simply wouldn’t be an adventure. As we are faced with adversity and seemingly insurmountable challenges or conditions, we learn more about who we are, as well as those around us. It is through these challenging adventures that we feel the most alive and we look forward to sharing these experiences with you.
Great Divide Mountain Bike Route - 2021
3,000 mile bikepacking expedition from Seattle to the Montana/Canada border & then following the Great Divide Mtn Bike Route to the Mexico border for the purpose of increasing domestic violence awareness and raising funds for Operation Care who provides services to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault.
Mokelumne River, Source to the Sea - 2022
Bikepacking, mountain climbing, backpacking, whitewater kayaking, canyoneering, sea kayaking and more from the Pacific Crest Trail to the Pacific Ocean. Starting & finishing in Jackson, California, this expedition will follow the Mokelumne River from the Source to the Sea.

Why we chose amador trail stewardship
Formed by community volunteers in 2022, the Amador Trail Stewardship is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization committed to providing outdoor recreation opportunities. They strive to develop, provide access to and maintain multi-use trail systems that enhance the local community. ATS wants to see residents living healthy lifestyles and to invite surrounding communities to enjoy Amador County’s natural beauty while increasing commerce to the area.
I am extremely pleased to to have my adventure raise both awareness and funds for Amador Trail Stewardship and to have them fill such an important role in working towards making our community a better place to live and play.
